| | Separatists placed under house arrest | | | SRINAGAR, Oct 26: Ahead of Eid-ul-Zuha tomorrow, almost entire separatist leadership has been placed under house arrest to prevent them from participating in the Eid prayers. Syed Ali Shah Geelani, chairman Hurriyat (G), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Chairman Hurriyat (M), Mohammad Yasin Malik, chairman JKLF and other separatist leaders, Javid Ahmad Mir and Shahidul Islam have been placed under house arrest. Democratic Freedom Party president, Shabir Ahmad Shah, was arrested by police at Pampore while he was on his way to Anantnag to offer Friday prayers. Geelani had given a protest call after Eid prayers and was to offer Eid prayers at Hazratbal. Mirwaiz was to offer prayers at Eidgah. Yasin was to offer the prayers at TRC ground. Geelani had also asked people to pass a resolution in the mosques and Eidgahs demanding right to self-determination and withdrawal of the armed forces from Jammu and Kashmir. The Hurriyat (G) chairman has also said October 27 is a black day in the history of Jammu and Kashmir and the Eid falls on the same day and therefore people should pass a resolution in mosques and Eidgahs reiterating their demand for right to self determination. Police claim that the separatists have been placed under house arrest to ensure peace during Eid. |
