| | CBI arrests IT staffers in bribe case | | | JAMMU, Nov 1: Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI’s) Anti Corruption Bureau here today claimed to have arrested two employees of Income Tax (IT) department in a trap case. They were nabbed while accepting Rs 25000 bribe from complainant Lt Col (Retired) Garish Chander Sexena, official sources said, adding that the accused were identified as Pritam Sharma (Clerk) and Hans Raj Income Tax Officer (ITO), both posted in IT Office Jammu. CBI sources claimed that the complainant approached them with allegations that he was to get cheque of Rs 2.5 lakhs from IT department, Railhead Complex Jammu as refund for which concerned officials were lingering on the matter for the last six months. Today, they demanded bribe of Rs 25,000 for issuing the cheque. Complainant read SP’s CBI’s interview in today's newspaper (of yesterday's press conference) and approached CBI office in the afternoon. A trap comprising Inspector BD Dandia, Deedar Singh, Kamal Sangra, Lalit Kumar, SI Harish and SI Udhey Gurjar was laid under the supervision of Dr Armaandeep Singh and DySP Radhey Shyam. Both the accused were caught red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 25000 in presence of independent witness. Official sources said that few files were also seized from the IT office and the raid concluded at 8 PM. Both were declared arrested and put up in CBI lock up. Possibility of nexus of Charted Accountants, IT Advocates and Senior IT Officers cannot be ruled out, sources maintained. |
