| | Teargassing, lathi-charge during NC public meeting at Langate | | | SRINAGAR, Nov 3 : Police burst smoke shells and resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the supporters of local MLA Engineer Rashid, who allegedly tried to disrupt a public meeting by National Conference (NC) at Shatgund Bala Langate. The public meeting, among others, was addressed by law minister Ali Mohammad Sagar and MP Sharif-ud-Din Shariq. The incident occurred when supporters of Rashid led by sarpanch Tahir Ahmad Mir strongly objected to some remarks of Shariq and held strong protest demonstrations. The MP alleged that Rashid engineered the sacrilege of a mosque in a local area to sabotage today’s public meeting of NC at Shatgund. The supporters of local MLA strongly objected to it and held protests. They tried to disrupt the public meeting. Sarpanch Tahir was arrested. Some shells were fired. The cops also resorted to cane charge to bring the situation under control. The NC leaders addressed the public meeting. Later sarpanch was released. Rashid’s supporters moved an application in the police station, demanding registration of case against NC MP for spreading false propaganda. Police registered a case against the sarpanch and refused to register the case against Shariq on the grounds that registration of case against an MP is not in its jurisdiction. |
