Separate charge sheet filed against juvenile accused

JAMMU, Apr 10: A day after it filed charge-sheet against seven major accused at CJM court in Kathua district, amid ruckus by lawyers, in rape and murder case of minor, the Crime Branch Tuesday filed a separate charge sheet against the juvenile accused.
In the meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) today also registered a case against the lawyers for obstructing Crime Branch from filing charge sheet in the case.
“FIR has been registered against these lawyers. Yes we have lodged an FIR and action will be taken against them,” DGP SP Vaid stated this while speaking to media. “The lawyers have not been identified so far and their identification is part of the investigation,” the police later told.
On Monday, a group of lawyers had tried to prevent Crime Branch (CB) of Jammu and Kashmir Police from filing charge sheet into rape-and-murder of eight-year-old girl Asifa Bano at the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Kathua.
The body of the girl, from the Bakerwal community, was recovered from Rassana forest on January 17, a week after she went missing while grazing horses in the forest area.
On January 23, the government had handed over the case to the crime branch of the state police which formed a Special Investigation Team and arrested eight people including two Special Police Officers (SPOs) and a head constable, who was charged with destruction of evidence.
Among the accused, former revenue official and the alleged conspirator, Sanji Ram (60), surrendered before the crime branch on March 20 after his son, Vishal, was arrested from Uttar Pradesh.
Earlier, Bar Association Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Kishtwar and Bhaderwah besides various political parties condemned action of Kathua lawyers to stop police from filing charge sheet in Asifa murder case and said that some vested interests were trying to derive political mileage out of a brutal and inhuman act.
“Some vested interests are trying to polarize the communities in the state by giving a criminal act a communal colour. A criminal is a criminal irrespective of his caste, colour and creed and must be dealt according to law. By evoking emotions and giving communal colour to Asifa’s rape and murder, these fringe elements are committing a heinous crime against the humanity. These anti-social and anti-human elements are trying to politicize the issue to get political mileage out of this shameful act,” they maintained.
They have also welcomed the filing of FIR against lawyers who tried to obstruct Crime Branch team.
Poonch Bar Association general secretary Sajad Chouhan said that they welcomed the FIR lodged against the lawyers who prevented police from filing the charge sheet against accused in Asifa rape-and-murder case yesterday. Poonch Bar also dissociated itself from the Jammu Bandh call given by the Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association Jammu for tomorrow.
Talking to reports in Poonch, he said, “The crime branch should continue to investigate the rape-and-murder of the minor girl.”
