| | Cong sets up LS polls committee | | | NEW DELHI: In a surprise announcement, clearly aiming at early Lok Sabha polls, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday set into motion election preparations by setting up an election coordination committee headed by Rahul Gandhi and three sub-groups, two of them headed by A K Antony. The coordination committee has five members besides Rahul, namely Congress President's political secretary Ahmed Patel, General Secretaries Janardan Dwivedi, Digvijay Singh and Madhu Sudan Mistry and union minister Jairam Ramesh. The six-member pre-poll alliance sub-group consists of Antony, M Veerappa Moily, Mukul Wasnik, Suresh Pachauri and Mohan Prakash while the 10-member sub-group on manifesto and government programmes comprises Antony, P Chidambaram, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Anand Sharma, Salman Khurshid (all ministers), Sandeep Dikshit, Renuka Chouwdhary, Ajit Jogi and Mohan Gopal as a special invitee. Digvijay Singh heads the communications and publicity sub-group of seven members, namely I&B Minister Manish Tewari, his predecessor Ambika Soni, union ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia and Rajeev Shukla, and MPs Deepender Hooda and Bhakta Charan Das. Sonia Gandhi had announced that she will form the panels to prepare for the Lok Sabha polls at the last week's "Samvad Baithak" of the party office-bearers and union ministers at Surajkund on the outskirts of Delhi. |
