Disgraceful to defame forces for vote politics: Azad
KT NEWS SERVICE
"
JAMMU, Nov 17: Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today lashed out at all those, who, he said, for vote bank politics would describe the army and other paramilitary forces, as “occupational forces” ignoring their supreme sacrifices for the citizens of State and accuse them of developing vested interest in not leaving J&K.

“This is great injustice with those valorous security personnel. This act of few persons, who have a penchant for defaming forces - their own saviours, for vote bank politics and selfish motives to serve their specific political constituencies is very unfortunate and disgraceful,” Azad said.

The Union Minister for Health defended action of security forces against, what he chose to describe as, “assassins of innocent persons” yet in the same breath he stated that the atrocities by forces upon the innocent forces, however, were never tolerated and would not be tolerated even in the future.

Azad was addressing the gathering on the occasion of 14th Shaheedi Diwas organised by MP Chowdhary Lal Singh at Kathua to commemorate Kargil martyrs.

While paying glowing tributes to all those martyrs who laid down their lives for safeguarding the frontiers of country and its citizens, he also took an indirect dig at National Conference additional general secretary Dr Mustafa Kamal for spewing venom against army and paramilitary forces on account of Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA).

“Kuchh Log Fauj- Army, BSF, CRPF, Police Waalon Kay Liye Kehte Hain Kay Yeh Yahan Qaabiz Ho Kay Baithey Hain, Nikalanaa Nahin Chahatay….Main Samajhata Hoon Kay Hum Unkay Saath Bahut Naainsaafi Kar Rahey Hain..Agar Hum Unki Bahaduri Aur Dileri Ki Sarahanaa Nahin Kar Saktay Kam Say Kam Hum Unko Badnaam Ya Unka Apmaan To Naa Karein Yeh Bahut Sharam Aur Afsos Ki Baat Hai ..Jo Log Unko Aaaye Din Public Meeting Mein, Apni Garz Kay Liye, Apni Khudgarzi Kay Liye…Vote Haasil Karnay Kay Liye Apnay Hi Mahafiz Ko Badnaam Kartay Hain..Issay Badi Koi Nainsaafi Nahin Ho Sakti…..(Some people defame forces, describe them as `occupational forces’..I think we’re doing great injustice to them…if we cannot appreciate their valour atleast we should not defame or insult them….this is very disgraceful….some people off and on in public meetings for their selfish motives, to get few votes defame their own saviours…this is great injustice),” Azad said.

He stated that more than 5000 security personnel hailing from different states of India had lost their lives in J&K. “They made supreme sacrifices not for land or any other ulterior motive but for their beloved country, for all of us,” he reminded the gathering.

He also defended action of the forces against the militants who he said killed hundreds and thousands of innocent persons in the last 20 years. Azad said,”20 Saalon Mein Jo Youth Marey ..Kuchh Militancy Ki Wajah Say..Kuchh To Militants Baney Lekin Jo Militants Nahin Thay Unki Achchhi Khaasi Tadaad Hai Jo Cross Firing Merin Maaray Gaye Jo Grenade Say Maaray Gaye Unki Tadaad Sainkadon Aur Hazaaron Ki…Nihathey Thay Bekasoor Thay Hum Unhein Bhi Tribute Dey Saktay Hain…..”

“Lekin Jo Militants Ban Gaye Woh Apni Marzi Say Banay Unhonay Innocent Logo Ka Qatl Kiya…Forces Ka Qatl Kiya Unko Marnaa Hi Tha Iss Mein Hum Kya Kar Saktay Hain..Jo Maaranay Kay Liye Nikala Woh Agar Kahey Main Maar Kay Jaayungaa…Aur Usko Koi Nahin Maaray Yeh Ek Nainsaafi Hogi…(But those took up arms and became militants, they did so with their choice and they killed innocent people, security personnel….they were destined to meet a violent end…we cannot do anything on this account…a person, who comes with a clear intention to kill someone innocent….and if that person is allowed to succeed in his nefarious designs and is not eliminated…that would be great injustice),” the Union Health Minister said.

In the same breath, Azad stated that no leniency however was shown to “black sheep” in forces.

“Jahan Jahan Bhi Zyadatiyaan Hui Hain Army Ki Wajah Say Police Ki Wajah Say Unko Maaf Nahin Kiya Gaya Hai Maine Apne Time Mein Jahan Hamein Information Mili Kay Inhonay Nihathay Aur Innocent Logon Ko Maara Ya Zulm Kiya Humnay Sakht Say Sakht Saza Di Insaaf Kiya Zalim Kay Saath Zaalim Jaisa Salook Lekin Mazloom Kay Saath Insaaf Karna Yeh Bhi Ek Dharam Hai…(Wherever atrocities were committed by the army or police personnel upon innocent persons, they were not forgiven…even during my tenure whenever we got an information that unarmed innocent persons were harassed, killed or atrocities were committed upon them, we took stringent action against the men in uniform…we delivered justice…brute and vicious elements need to be treated with their own medicine but the helpless, innocent persons should be given justice and that is a moral duty),” he said.

Azad also took a dig at the politicians stating that the meaning of “sacrifice” had a different connotation for many. The politicians, who were not able to enjoy pelf of power, would say that they had made great sacrifice, he said and added but the real sacrifice was the selfless act by the valorous security personnel for their nation.

Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Minister for Tourism Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister of State for Cooperatives Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, former ministers Jugal Kishore Sharma, G M Saroori, MLAs Vikar Rasool, Ashok Kumar, Krishan Chander, former MLA Kanta Andotra too were present on the occasion.
