| | Adopt a stray..! | | | My young friend Taronish called me this morning, ‘We are again hosting a major animal adoption camp called Adoptathon 2012, this November 25th ’ he said. ‘This is the only Adoption camp for Indian mix-breed pups and kittens for all those in the city and beyond who have rescued pups and kittens that they would want to put up for adoption.’ As he spoke I remembered the time I’d bumped into one of those ‘mix breed pups’ nearly a decade ago: Little puppy, badly hurt, hit by a car. My German-Shepherd who used to come with me every morning for her run glared at the tiny wounded cur, “Its a dirty mongrel master,” she seemed to say. “Leave it alone. Lets carry on with our walk!” The small pup though had other plans: Wagging its skinny tail, it stretched out badly injured paw. I touched its bent down ears. It gave a cry of happiness. Its tiny delicate paw was puffed and swollen. I picked it up and brought it home. Its eyes thanked me and have thanked me since till date. “Why,” I’ve often wondered, “did that pup come to me?” God’s Strays! They come to us, because a God above sees their hurt, feels their pain and directs them us: God sends strays in many forms: Your weary maid, coughs as she sweeps the floor; give her the cough mixture bottle, let her take it home. She looks at you, and suddenly you see her tears. She knows somebody cares. And then strange thought comes to my mind. What was I thinking off, before the stray dog intruded into my morning walk? The usual; problems, difficulties, worries! A God above looked down and said “Enough Bob!” The stray came, my problems disappeared. As I’d stroked its little head there was not a worry in my mind. No cares as I cleaned it’s wound. No concerns as I filled its tiny stomach. And suddenly a thought flashes through my mind; maybe, just maybe I am the stray who needed God’s help! My thoughts come back to the phone call, ‘Please tell anyone who would like to adopt or give a stray for adoption to contact me on my cell.’ Is there anyone who would like go through that divine experience I’d been through nearly ten years ago? If so go ahead and adopt a stray dog or kitten. God’s stray, my dog Pluto now ten, looks up and smiles at me. bobsbanter@gmail.com |
