| | Flurry of activities to ensure victory of party candidates | | MLC seats: Cong in election mode | | JAMMU, Nov 18: State Congress unit is gearing up with flurry of activities, suggestive of its election mode, to ensure the victory of party (alliance) candidates in the contest for four seats of J&K Legislative Council under Panchayat quota. As a part of these activities, PCC president Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz has convened a meeting of party legislators including ministers in Jammu at 10.00 AM at the Institute of Engineers on November 19. The agenda is to chalk out strategy to mobilize Panches and Sarpanches, who comprise electoral college with two votes each for election to two seats of Legislative Council in their respective regions, to vote for party nominees. The deliberations with the legislators will be followed by yet another function at Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) headquarter Shaheedi Chowk in connection with the birth anniversary celebrations of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at 11.00 AM. The occasion, which is likely to witness the presence of significant legislators, ministers and senior PCC functionaries, too will be used by the PCC president to share inputs of alliance election coordination committee meet convened on Saturday i.e., November 17 and draw an action plan for the party functionaries for elections. Alliance election coordination committee on Saturday had its second meeting to chalk out coalition's strategy for election to four seats of Legislative Council under Panchayat quota. During the meet, the deliberations were made as how the partners would be coordinating at block, district, provincial and state levels to ensure the victory of alliance candidates. It was decided that the ministers, legislators would jointly campaign for coalition candidates and both the parties would work together to mobilize support of village heads across the state. Those, who had participated in the alliance election coordination committee meeting headed by Minister for Rural Development Ali Mohammed Sagar, included Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma, JKPCC spokesperson and MLC Ravinder Sharma, Minister for Public Enterprises Peerzada Mohammed Sayeed from Congress side and Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Ittoo, Minister for Industries S S Slathia, MLA Chowdhary Mohammed Ramzan and MLC Ajay Sadhotra from National Conference side. |
