JAMMU, Nov 18: Twenty teams, representing as many universities of the country, shall compete for top honours in the 15-day long All India Vice Chancellor's Twenty20 Cricket Cup Tournament being hosted by University of Jammu here from tomorrow. To be played on league-cum-knockout basis, the competition shall be conducted following the Twenty20 guidelines of the International Cricket Council (ICC) under the banner of Association of Indian Universities (AIUs). This was stated by chairman of the organizing committee, Vice Chancellor, Prof MPS Ishar in an interaction with media, here this afternoon. Confident about host team's preparations, Prof Ishar said that JU was all set to clinch the champion's trophy for third time. "We are already two time champion in the VC's Cup and the way our team has prepared this time, the trophy will be back with us to make it a third such title," asserted Prof Singh. The competition shall be declared open by the Minister for Sports, R S Chib, who has consented to be the chief guest in tomorrow's inaugural function on the campus. Soon after the inauguration, the matches shall start at both the grounds of the university. As per the already drawn fixture, four matches shall be played on each day in the league round, which shall be followed by the knock-out stages of the quarterfinals. Vice Chancellor was accompanied by Registrar, JU, Prof Naresh Padha and organizing secretary of the competition, Director Sports and Physical Education, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau. As also president of Jammu University Non-Teaching Union, Sunil Sahil and incharge media committee, Ranjit Kalra were present. Pertinent to mention here that JU had won the VC's T20 Cup continuously for two years in 2008-09 at Mumbai and in 2009-10 at Kashmir. The JU team lost in the semifinals last year at Delhi.
