VC’s T20 Cup : JU makes winning start

JAMMU, Nov 20: Host University of Jammu defeated Jalgoan University by a big margin of 55 runs in group-A tie to make it a winning start in the league round of the ongoing All India Vice Chancellor’s Twenty20 Cup Cricket Tournament, here today.

Earlier, JU won the toss and decided to bat first they made 162 runs for the loss of eight wickets, which, in reply, Jalgoan University could not chase and exhausted their quota of 20 overs for 107 runs for the loss of seven wickets.

Vishal played fine innings of 46 runs while Rajesh contributed 31. Amit Targotra and Dawood added 13 runs each. From Jalgaon University, Jitu took four wickets, followed by Shashikant, Yadav and Arun, who shared apiece each.

Batting second, Jalgaon could only reach 107 runs mark in stipulated overs losing seven wickets in the process. Arvind did a fine job making highest 58 runs while no other batsman could bat well. Niranjan was most successful bowler from JU with three wickets while Rajesh took two and Pawan one.

This match was witnessed besides others by Vice Chancellor, Prof MPS Ishar and Registrar, Prof Naresh Padha as also Director Sports, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau.

Meanwhile, in another match of the day, Pune University defeated DDU Gorakhpur by six wickets. Batting, first, DDU made 86 runs for eight wickets, which, in reply, Pune University chased in 14.1 overs making 87 runs for the loss of four wickets.

Kashmir University to face Pune University while HP University Shimla shall be playing against Manu University Hyderabad. Afternoon Session: IGNOU Delhi to take on GB Pant University and MDS University has been pitted against PU Chandigarh.
