| | Implementation of ban on use of polythene bags reviewed | | | SAMBA, Nov 20 : In sequence of the decisions taken in the meeting of District Officers and Executive Officers of Municipal Committees for enforcement of J&K Non-Biodegradable Material Act 2007 and imposing a ban on polythene carry bags, the teams comprising of senior officers, Executive Officers of Municipal Committees with the help of Police have been conducting check in the market of the towns to seize the polythene carry bags and take action against the traders who are using polythene bags in their business establishments. Different teams of the Municipal Committees who are carrying out the checkings on daily basis have seized about 300 kgs of polythene carry bags from the traders till date. The DDC while reviewing the progress on imposing ban on the polythene carry bags today issued fresh directions to the Executive Officers of Municipal Committees to impose fine under provisions of J&K Non-Biodegradable Material Act, 2007 and also challan the cases in the Civil Court against the shopkeepers who are still found using the polythene carry bags in their establishments. DDC asked the Executive Officers to generate awareness among the general masses for not using the polythene bags and instead use the jute/cloth or other bio-degradable material bags. |
