| | Geelani calls for anti-Israel protests on Friday | | ‘Kashmiris and Palestinians facing worst kind of state terrorism’ | | SRINAGAR, Nov 20: The Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, today called for protests on Friday against the Israel’s air strikes on Palestine. “We as a Nation are ourselves occupied by colonial power. We cannot help our Palestinian brethren in real sense, but we must express solidarity with them…Protests shall be staged after Friday prayers on November 23,” he said. Over 100 people have been killed and hundreds more injured in air raids on Palestine by Israel. The military action has evoked widespread criticism from Muslim and non-Muslim countries across the world, while protests are anti-Israel are being held in most countries. Protests were also held at New Delhi and many other states. The call comes shortly after the isolated protests by various groups here against the Israel. Last week, a group of Muslim Khawateen Markaz led by Zamruda Habib staged a protest, followed by a candle light protest on the next day after and protest rally by lawyers yesterday. Drawing parallels between Palestine and Kashmir, the 82-year-old separatist leader said both the regions were victims of “worst kind of state terrorism”. “In both regions are civilians facing worst kind of state terrorism, and the so-called civilized is silent because the victims are Muslims. Until both these issues are resolved, World cannot be made peaceful,” he said. He said the attacks by Israel should be an eye-opener for the Muslim leaders who expect favours from America. “Israel’s state terrorism is fully backed by America. It shall open eyes of those Muslim leaders who are fond of good relations with America, expecting that the country to do them any favours,” he said, and asked, “Attack on Malala Yousufzai was no way justified, but those who condemned that attack are today silent over the killing of children in Palestine. Is it because none of them (Palestinian children) is named Malala? Or because USA backs Israel?” Geelani appealed the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) for diplomatic help of the Palestine. “If OIC cannot help Palestine, the countries shall at least use diplomatic ties for bringing an end to attack by attack,” he said. He also condemned the attack on the rally of Qazi Hussain Ahmad in Pakistan, calling it a work of anti-Islam elements. |
