| | Army holds Chinar Mini Marathon | | | JAMMU, Nov 21: The youth of Srinagar sweated out during the Chinar Mini Marathon which was organized under the aegis of HQ 31 Sub Area by Raavi Terriers at Dal Lake on November 17 jointly with Directorate Youth Services and Sports Deptt, (J&K) Govt. Around 4000 participants including men, women & young children of various schools and other institutions of Srinagar participated in the colourful event with great zeal and enthusiasm. The event was organized from Nishat Garden to Nehru Park and from Chashma Shahi to Nehru Park for 7 km and 3 km run respectively and in the different categories of various age groups. The Marathon was flagged off by Asgar Hassan Samoon, Divisional Commissioner, Srinagar in an impressive ceremony in the presence of a very large crowd. An overwhelming and unprecedented response was received for the event and it was heartening to see school children, both boys and girls, male less and above 40 yrs wearing colourful T-Shirts running along the beautiful and picturesque Dal Lake was a pleasure site. Lt Gen Om Prakash, General Officer Commanding, 15 Corps complimented all the participants, teachers of various Schools and other support staff for organizing such wonderful event and also conveyed that good health is a pre-requisite for a sound mind. He further stated that the theme of this Mini Marathon is the “ AMAN KA JAZBA” and the younger generation of today will usher the State in a era of everlasting peace. He also assured the participants that in future more events of such nature will be organized. Nelofar Amin, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports Deptt alongwith Army and civil dignitaries also were present during the conduct of the magnificent event. The successful conduct of the grand event is attributed to fine co-ordination between Army, Police, Civil Administration and Youth Services & Sports Deptt of J&K State. |
