VC’s T20 Cup: IGNOU Delhi registers facile win

JAMMU, Nov 21: The competitive side of IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) Delhi today clinched a narrow one-wicket win against GB Pant University Uttrakhand in a group-A tie to strengthen their position in the league round of the ongoing All India Vice Chancellor’s Twenty20 Cricket Cup at University of Jammu grounds, here.

Sailing on superb innings played by the duo of Darshan, who made 44 runs off 40 balls and Arun Kambli (30 runs off 28 balls, 4x4), IGNOU chased the 125 runs target in 19.4 overs losing nine wickets. From GB Pant, Anil Joshi took three wickets, followed by Bhagat Singh, who bagged two. For his all-round performance, Darshan was adjudged man of the match.

Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, GB Pant Uttrakhand lost all their wickets for 124 runs. Bhagat Singh hit brilliant half century coming off just 33 balls, including nine boundaries. Manjeet Kundpal and Mahesh Joshi contributed 16 and 10 runs respectively. Harish Kumar, Arun Kumar and Darshan took two wickets each from IGNOU Delhi.

Meanwhile, in another match of the day, Mannu Hyderabad defeated HP University Shimla by 15 runs.

Batting first, after winning the toss, Mannu Hyderabad set a target of 163 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Mohammad Yousaf remained top scorer with 51-ball 52 runs including six boundaries while Abdul Hafeez contributed 35-ball 46 runs with the help of five fours and a six. From HP Shimal, Surinder and Mukesh bagged three and two wickets respectively.

In reply, HP University bowled out for 147 runs thereby lost the match by 15 runs. Devinder made highest 59 runs studded with eight boundaries, followed by Pushpinder and Rajesh, who added 27 and 23 runs respectively. Naveed three while Ameer and Isar Mahi took two wickets each from Mannu Hyderabad.

In another league match, played today, PU Chandigarh registered a big seven wickets win over MDS University, courtesy unbeaten 91 runs innings played by Amrinder 91. Amrinder, who adjudged man of the match, faced just 36 balls to make highest score of the competition with the help of 10 boundaries and six hits over the fence.

In a group-B league match played today, Kashmir University (KU) outplayed Pune University by a margin of 23 runs. Batting first, after winning the toss, KU made 162 runs for the loss of eight wickets.

First class cricketer, Samiullah made half century hitting six boundaries while Suhail contributed 37-ball 45 runs. Parvez Parray added nine-ball 22 runs and Tariq 10. From Pune University, Sunil and Santosh took two wickets each.

In reply, Pune University could make 139 runs in 20 overs for six wickets. Nitin Parsad was top scorer with 42 runs while Samir added 30. From KU, Latif bagged three wickets and Samiullah took two. For his all round performance, Samiullah was named man of the match.
