| | Protests against Israel on, arrests in Srinagar | | | SRINAGAR, Nov 22: Police today arrested activists of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Youth Federation (JKDYF) who were protesting here against the Israeli attack in Gaza. A peaceful protest demonstration was also held at Islamic University at Awantipora on the issue. Shouting slogans and raising placards in their hands, JKDYF activists assembled at Press Enclave in Srinagar. Advocate Arshid Hussain Baba, president and Abdul Rashid Yatoo, general secretary JKDYF led the protest rally and later tried to march towards Lal Chowk but were stopped by the police and arrested. Prior to their arrest, while addressing the protesting activists, the two youth leaders urged the international community to rise to the occasion and put in efforts to broker a long lasting and durable peace in the region. Advocate Baba and Yatoo also appealed the prime minister to use his good offices to mobilize the world community for cessation of hostilities and ensure no more casualties of innocent and helpless Palestinian people take place in Gaza. Hundreds of students staged anti Israel protests in Islamic university of science and technology Awantipora. Students gathered outside the academic block of university and marched across the university campus chanting slogans and carrying placards reading anti Israel, anti America and anti west slogans. “Israel is a real terrorist on the globe and receives full support of other countries like America, India and various western countries to attack on Palestine,” said Mohammad Asif, a B.tech student. Muslim world is still sleeping and is doing nothing to stop this genocide of innocent Palestine people by Israel, said a protester holding a placard. |
