SRINAGAR, Oct 11 : Some families from different parts of Kashmir Valley today demanded that the bodies of their militant sons killed in Bandipora gunfight should be handed over to them so that they could bury them at their ancestral graveyards.
Pertinently, on September 22, Army claimed that it killed five non-local militants in a gunfight at Sumlar area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
However, militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen after the gunfight maintained that all the five militants killed in the gunfight were locals. The outfit had identified the slain militants as Hyder Ali from Brazul Kulgam, Mohammad Umar from Shopian, Mohammad Sidiq from Bandipora, Mawiya from Kangan and Usman from Lolab.
The family members of these slain militants assembled here in Press Enclave Srinagar alleging that despite taking DNS samples, authorities are reluctant to handover the bodies to them. They said the bodies of militants have been buried at Sheri Baramulla.
“From the past two weeks we have been wandering from pillar to post to take the possession of the bodies of our beloved sons, but authorities are using dilly dally tactics,” Abdul Khaliq Lone from Kangan Pulwama told media.
The family members said after meeting both deputy commissioners of Bandipora and Baramulla, DNA samples were taken for identification of the bodies. “It has been over two weeks and yet there is no word from authorities,” they said.
The protesting family members raised slogans demanding the bodies of their slain militant sons. They were carrying placards and banners.
