"
JAMMU, Oct 2 : BJP state president today sat on a 48-hour fast today in protest against rampant corruption and scams in the Jammu and Kashmir state, in particular Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) scam, resignation of Union Minister Farooq Abdullah from the post of JKCA President.

He said that JKCA has been continuously under the control of Farooq Abdullah for last several years and instead of serving its purpose of promoting cricket, it has become a den of misappropriation of funds by a handful of individuals. He said that as per the statements of JKCA former treasurer Ehsan Mirza and J&K bank officials, dubious transactions of money were carried out with the approval and signatures of Farooq Abdullah.

The inquiry should also investigate the huge funds received from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) by JKCA for developing the sport of cricket, providing infrastructure for cricket stadiums and training young sports persons to compete at national and international level.

He said that BJP is committed to fight against corruption at national and state level and it has been continuously protesting against various scams in the state, both on the streets as well as in the assembly. He added that till the JKCA scam inquiry is taken to its logical conclusion, the BJP will continue to agitate.

"Despite repeated pleas by BJP, the NC-Congress coalition government has refused to hand over the case to CBI, which further increases the element of suspicion," party's national executive member and spokesperson Jitendra Singh said.

The situation has now deteriorated to such an extent that Jammu and Kashmir was being described as the "most corrupt state" in the country, he said.

"We demand implementation of 73rd and 74th amendment in Panchayat Raj Act in J&K to empower our panchayats. Congress, PDP and BJP, JKNNP is fully backing it and only NC is against it", member of PEC Shamsher Singh told reporters here.
