Northern commander reviews situation in Kishtwar

Celebrates Diwali with troops on Poonch LoC

JAMMU, Nov 8: Lt Gen Ranbir Singh Army Commander, Northern Command, accompanied by the White Knight Corps Commander Lt Gen Paramjit Singh Thursday visited hinterland posts of Kishtwar and Suigarh sector to review the operational preparedness and the prevailing security situation.
Earlier on Wednesday, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh joined by Lt Gen Paramjit Singh celebrated Diwali with troops deployed along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector and lauded their unwavering dedication to duty, selfless devotion and high standard of professionalism.
According to Defence Spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand, during his visit to Kishtwar and Suigarh sectors, the Army Commander was briefed by the commanders on ground about the current operational and prevailing hinterland security situation and the preparedness of the formations in dealing with the same. The Army Commander was also updated by the White Knight Corps Commander on current internal security situation in the Kishtwar region and measures undertook by the army and civil administration for controlling the situation. The Army Commander also interacted with civil administration officials at Kishtwar who briefed on the internal security situation in the region in light of unfortunate incident on November 1, 2018 wherein a political party secretary Anil Parihar and his brother Ajit Parihar were killed in a cowardly act.
The Army Commander expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and lauded the role played by the leaders of the region, elders, local populace and joint efforts of all security forces that helped in maintaining peace in Kishtwar and adjoining areas. The Army Commander was also briefed on the actions being taken to ensure a robust counter terrorist grid to enable continued peace and stability in the region.
Lt Gen Ranbir Singh also interacted with the soldiers and complimented them for their dedication to duty and high standard of professionalism. The need to be prepared for effectively meeting emerging security challenges was also reinforced by the Army Commander to the troops during his interaction. He exhorted all ranks on the need to remain vigilant to counter the nefarious designs of the inimical and anti- national elements.
Earlier on Wednesday, Lt Gen Singh, accompanied by White Knight Corps Commander Lt Gen Paramjit Singh visited forward posts in Poonch sector in Jammu and Kashmir to convey Diwali greetings to the troops on Wednesday.
Defence spokesperson said during the visit to Poonch sector, the Army Commander distributed sweets to army and Border Security Force troops deployed on the forward posts. The Army Commander interacted with soldiers and complimented them for their unwavering dedication to duty, selfless devotion and high standard of professionalism.
The Army Commander was appreciative of the high morale of troops who are away from their near & dear ones. He also complimented soldiers for measures and Standard Operating Procedures instituted by the units and formations in their area of responsibility to minimise the casualties due to cease fire violations and infiltration bids.
The Army Commander also exhorted all ranks on the need to remain vigilant to counter the nefarious designs of the enemy and anti- national elements and to ensure a robust counter infiltration and counter terrorist grid to enable continued peace and stability in the region.
