1 killed, 10 injured in Mandi accident

POONCH, Dec 2: One person died while ten others were injured as a minibus rolled down into a deep gorge at Timbera village of Mandi tehsil in Poonch district early Sunday morning.

According to police, a minibus bearing registration number JKO2Q 3814 was on its way from Mandi to Poonch when it skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge at Timbera village early this morning.

Locals noticed the mini bus lying in the gorge and immediately informed the police. They also assisted the police and other agencies engaged in rescue operation to shift injured to the District Hospital Poonch. However the doctors in the District Hospital Poonch declared one of the injured identified as Abdul Jabbar, son of Abdul Hamid as `brought dead.’ Out of other injured, the doctors later referred four critically injured to Government Medical College (GMC) hospital, Jammu for advance treatment.

The injured were identified as Mohammed Sadiq, son of Mohammed Akbar, resident of Bandi Kama Khan, Mohammed Khurshid, son of Wali Mohammed, resident of Bandi Kama Khan, Mohammed Shoaib, son of Mohammed Qayoom, resident of Salonia, Irshad Ahmed, son of Mohammed Sharief, resident of Sathra, Mohammed Din, son of Wali Mohammed, resident of Bandi Kama Khan, Abdul Hamid, son of Faquir Mohammed, resident of Gali Pindi, Mohammed Rashid, son of Sardar Mohammed, resident of Seklu, Ghulam Qadir, son of Abdul Joo, resident of Seklu, Ishitiak Ahmed, son of Saber Hussain, resident of Sathera and Ashfaq Hussain, son of Sarvar Hussain.

The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed grief over the loss of precious human lives in a road accident in Mandi. He conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for early recovery of the injured.

According to an official handout, the Chief Minister directed the district administration to provide all possible medical treatment to the injured.
