| | Digvijay helps Kathua lift Waryam hockey trophy | | | POONCH, Dec 2: The visiting side of Kathua XI defeated fighting local Waryam Club to lift the trophy in the 17th edition of the Waryam Memorial Hockey Championship, the final of which played at Government Degree College ground, here today. In the title clash that Kathua XI won 3-0, Digvijay sparkles scoring all the three goals thus making a hat-trick. Waryam Club, who too played tough hockey, missed as many as five goal chances during the 70-minute game. Most of the time, Waryam Club forwards could not give finishing touch to their well coordinated moves, thus dejected the strong crowd at the venue. In the valedictory function, District Development Commissioner, Poonch, Ajeet Kumar Sahu was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies. Speaking to the gathering, the DDC complimented Manjeet Singh for the initiative of holding the event. He said, “District Poonch has been blessed with natural talent in certain games, especially in hockey, so the need of the hour is to tap it to achieve desired results.” Superintendent of Police Poonch, Shamsher Hussain was guest of honour. He also appreciated the organizing committee for the successful conduct of the event at the district. Meanwhile, it was announced by the organizers during the function that one NRI from Canada, Arvinder Singh Lovely has announced a cash reward of Rs 15,000 for best goalkeeper of the meet. He penal of officials who conducted the event were Narinder Singh, Harmik Singh, Ruchika Sharma, Amarjeet Singh, Ramanjot Singh and Kulwant Singh. Prominent among others present were Prem Parkash Luthra, Satpal Singh, ML Sharma, Surinder Singh Mohd. Tariq Khan, Harvinder Pal Singh, Rajinder Singh, Pushkar Raj Sharma and Gurdev Singh. The championship was organized by Manjeet Singh under the aegis of Hockey Jammu and Kashmir. |
