18-yr old girl burnt alive in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor district

BIJNORE, July 20 (Agencies): An 18-year-old girl was allegedly burnt alive by five persons in Mudhal village in the Heempur Depa police station area.

According to the police, the victim, the daughter of one Surajpal Singh, had gone to a shop in the village when five of her fellow villagers poured petrol on her and set her ablaze.

The accused are then learnt to have threatened other villages with dire consequences before leaving the spot.

The victim was later taken to the district hospital where she succumbed to injuries in the wee hours today, police said.

Based on the victim's statement before the SDM Bijnore, a complaint has been lodged against the five accused, identified as Kailash, Bhim Singh, Pintu, Ajay and Bablu. Out of them, Kailash has been arrested while a search is on to nab the other four accused.

Police said that the accused suspected the victim of having had a role in the recent disappearance of a girl from Kailash's family and were out to punish her for the same.

Police have been deployed in the village as a precautionary measure.
