BUDGAM, Dec 6: Maintaining that poetry of Sufi Saint, Hazrat Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Wali (RA) has relevance even present era of science and technology, Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, Abdul Rahim Rather today underscored the need for indepth and comprehensive research work on various facets of his life and teachings adding that this would help to keep the common masses abreast about his philosophy of life and religion.

Speaking at the inaugural session of 2 days seminar on Sheikh-ul-Alam “Hayat Aur Karnama”(Life and contribution) organised by the Markaz-i-Noor, centre for Sheikh-ul-Alam studies and Research in Ibn-e-Kuldoom Hall of University of Kashmir today, Rather said that the message and philosophy of Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) is relevant even today and will continue to inspire readers and devotees far ever because of its universal appeal.

While assuring government’s financial support to the centre for Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) studies, Rather called for promoting and popularising the understanding of Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Wali (RA), his poetry, and its underlying message and social significance.

The function besides a large number of university students, was also attended by a galaxy of eminent scholars, writers and poets including VC, Kashmir University, Prof Talat, Prof. Rehman Rahi, Ghulam Nabi Gowhar, Chairman, Centre for Sheikh-ul-Alam studies and research, Prof. Bashir Bashir, Prof. Ashraf Wani of the department of Social Sciences, Prof. Aziz Hajini, Prof. Farooq Fayaz, HOD Department of Kashmir, Majroo Rashid, Saleem Baigh, Ishaq Khan, Abdul Hamid Bhat, Prof. Bashir Nehvi, Prof Shad Ramzan, Prof. Rattan Talashi, Shamshad Kralwari, Majid Asmi, Mohammad Ayub Sabir etc.

Rather said that Sheikh Noor-ud-Din (RA) was a great social reformer and his concept of social justice as propounded by him shall help in a big way to eradicating various social evils prevailing in the society. He also called for self introspection to ascertain our contribution in exploring the life and teachings of this great sufi poet adding that the research centre should endeavour to come upto the expectations, for which it has come into the existence.

Rather said that a modern Sheikh-ul-Alam Auditorium will be constructed near the new Government Degree College, Chrar-i-Sharief adding that the concerned authorities of Kashmir University, writers, scholars and all stake holders would be taken on board in this regard. He assured the centre for Sheikh-ul-Alam Research that all possible measures will be taken to remove hardships and difficulties coming in the way of its smooth functioning.

Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University said that two fellowships have been registered in this Research Centre adding that University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved more fellowships. He said adequate financial support will be provided to the Markaz-i-Noor in the 13th Five Year Plan and assured that the University will gladly associate with the proposed project for setting up of Sheikh-ul-Alam Auditorium at Chrar-i-Sharief. He also urged for consolation of the research work done on the life and philosophy of Hazrat Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Wali (RA).

Prof. Bashar Bashir gave on overview of the working of the centre for Sheikh-ul-Alam studies and Research and said that about Nine scholars have taken up research work on Sheikh-ul-Alam so far. Saleem Beigh also spoke on the occasion and urged for engaging research scholars towards newer dimensions of the life and poetry of Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA).

There will be three more technical session wherein, eminent scholars and writers will read their research papers.
