| | PDP to Omar: Merge NC into Cong | | | SRINAGAR, Dec 7: Suggesting chief minister Omar Abdullah to merge his party National Conference into Congress, opposition PDP today said the vote share in the Legislative Council (LC) polls was a precursor to the downfall of National Conference which has had a very important position on the state’s political map. “They might have won all the seats but the vote percentage itself is an indication that NC has a tough time ahead,” PDP spokesman Naeem Akhter told a local news agency, KNS. He said Omar Abdullah has ruined National Conference. “Omar has brought National Conference to such a stage where they had to rely on Congress to fight PDP,” Naeem said, adding that the vote percentage was a testimony to the fact that PDP has emerged as the single largest regional party in Jammu and Kashmir. “You will see that in next assembly elections, National Conference will face the music and will find it very tough on almost all the seats,” added Naeem. National Conference, however, ridiculed Naeem’s claims and said the ruling party does not need any suggestion from anyone. “We know what we are doing, so nobody needs to advise us,” party additional general secretary Dr. Mustafa Kamal told KNS while responding to PDP. He accused PDP of resorting to ‘lies’ and ‘character assassination’. “We are not a party like PDP, who would befool people and resort to character assassination,” Kamal said, and asked PDP to revisit their past when they (PDP) were in alliance with Congress. “When you had coalition with Congress, it was alright, and when Congress is with NC, we are bad.” He also said that he was not against Congress, saying National Conference has an internal democracy. “We raise issues democratically and one should not misunderstand that as a revolt against the party or its decisions,” said Kamal. |
