JAMMU, May 28: Pakistani troops Tuesday targetted forward Indian posts and villages both on the Line of Control and the International Border using small arms and mortar shells in Rajouri, Poonch and Kathua districts.
Defence spokesperson, while confirming ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district, said that Indian side gave a befitting reply.
“The Pakistan army, at about 1600 hours Tuesday, initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation starting with firing of small arms followed by shelling using mortars along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district's Nowshera sector,” said PRO Defence. “Indian troops gave a befitting reply,” he added.
The Pakistan army earlier in the day resorted to firing on forward posts along the LoC in the Shahpur sector in Poonch, the officials said. “There was no damage or injury reported in exchange of firing on the LoC,” they said.
There were reports of firing of a few rounds from across the International Border (IB) in the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district also.
Official sources said that Pakistan Rangers late on Monday night violated the ceasefire by firing unprovoked on this side at forward post Chandwan in Hiranagar sector of Kathua. “The Pak Rangers fired five to six rounds of small arms,” they said adding that the BSF men did not retaliate.
On Sunday, a teenager was injured in firing by the Pakistan army along the LoC in the Nowshera sector. On May 19, Assistant Sub-Inspector Satyapal Singh suffered splinter injuries when he was manning a forward post at Baloni in the Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district.
