Roop Lal Sharma passes away

JAMMU, Jun 12: Roop Lal Sharma, former special correspondent/political bureau chief of Press Trust of India (PTI) and special correspondent Kashmir Times passed away on Wednesday at his residence in Delhi.
He was 75.
One of the most respected political bureau chiefs in the journalistic fraternity of the union capital given his professional acumen, skill and commitment, Sharma started his illustrious career with Kashmir Times as its correspondent before joining prestigious news agency PTI in 1970 as its special correspondent. He rose to the post of Political Bureau chief by dint of sheer hard work and professional insight. He also earned the achievement of becoming the longest serving political bureau chief of PTI.
After his retirement from PTI in 2002, he rejoined Kashmir Times as its special correspondent which he continued till he breathed his last. He also served as the consultant to the Union Government and Press Advisor to the Prime Minister from 1999-2002.
He is survived by his wife and two sons.
His death has been widely condoled in the journalistic and political circles of the capital and J&K.
The management and staff of Kashmir Times Group of Publications also condoled his sad and sudden demise. In a condolence meeting, Editor Kashmir Times Prabodh Jamwal and Executive Editor Anuradha Bhasin Jamwal paid glowing tributes to veteran scribe and recalled his contribution to the journalism. They also expressed sympathy with the bereaved family. They prayed for peace to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
KT correspondent from Doda Saidullah Rangrez also condoled the demise of veteran scribe.
