Traders demand holding of Jammu Chamber’s elections

JAMMU, June 16: Traders on Saturday expressed resentment over non-holding of elections of Chamber of Commerce and Industries Jammu.
While addressing traders at a programme held here, former President CCI, Y V Sharma said that Jammu Chamber worked in sheer violation of its constitution. "It is our duty to oppose unconstitutional measures being adopted by the present office bearers of the Chamber," he said, seeking early elections of Jammu Chamber as per the Constitution. "We must unite together to preserve the prestige, dignity and the spirit of the constitution of this apex institution which is in existence for more than 80 years and has been developed by the strenuous efforts of our predecessors. We should not let anyone to destroy or weaken it in any way," he added.
Arun Gupta, former General Secretary CCI Jammu, alleged that not even a single issue of Jammu traders was redressed by the present team. At present, the business community of Jammu is facing severe problems due to the ongoing raids of State Taxes Department, he said, adding that traders are not happy with the functioning of Jammu Chamber.
Gupta further said that the tenure of present Chamber team expired long back but it is still continuing the term in sheer violation of the Constitution of CCI. The members demanded holding of elections of Jammu Chamber at the earliest, so that problems being faced by traders can be resolved.
