ANATNAG, June 17: An army officer and a militant were killed while three other army men including a major suffered wounds during a gunfight in southern Anantnag district on Monday.

Officials said a couple of hours after the cordon was launched around the village, forces came in contact with the hiding militants. The two sides exchanged fire for a brief period.
"After the brief exchange of fire there was a lull in the firing for several hours. In the early afternoon as the forces intensified the searches the firing resumed between the two sides," officials said.
