MUMBAI, Aug 22: ICC chairman Shashank Manohar has accepted the SLC invitation and is booked to arrive to watch the 2nd Test match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand at the P Sara Oval.
"Not only the chairman, but the ICC deputy chairman will also be in attendance", the source in SLC told to this reporter.
In 2017, the ICC had appointed Imran Khawaja, a veteran administrator from Singapore, as its deputy chairman.
Khawaja, who is a senior lawyer, has been an invisible force at the ICC Board for several years and he was instrumental in convincing the ICC chairman Shashank Manohar to take back his resignation.
Sri Lankan sports minister recently met the ICC chairman in Nagpur and following his visit, the SLC president Shami Silva had sent the invitations to the ICC officials to witness the Test match in Colombo. Both may not be there for the entire duration of the Test. They are likely to be shown the cricket museum.
In February this year, the SLC had opened a cricket museum at the head quarter. The museum has dedicated sections focusing on Sri Lanka’s Test Cricket; One Day and T20I Cricket and also its pre-Test era.
The museum has also treasured the winner Trophy (MJ Gopalan Silver Jubilee-1952. The match was played between Madras (now Chennai) and Ceylon (now India).
The museum shows the history of Sri Lanka's first Test victory beating India at the P. Sara Oval in 1985.
