JAMMU, Sep 8: Rahul Tandon, District President (Working) of J&K Youth Congress has appealed the Governor to order an enquiry into the purchase of Mobile phones of one particular company by Directorate of ICDS, Social Welfare deptt.
While speaking to media, he said that that Directorate ICDS, J&K plans to purchase 34,248 smartphones for Anganwadi Workers at a higher price from one particular company under National Nutrition Mission (NNM) of Government of India by sidelining the norms.
A tender for purchase of 34,248 smartphones was published by Directorate ICDS on GeM portal and all the competitors have been eliminated and only three companies, Targus Technologies Pvt Ltd , Vision Distribution Pvt Ltd & Ingram Micro India Pvt Ltd , who quoted Samsung Brand have been declared qualified as per the documents available with us.
He demanded an enquiry by the Governor because this all seems fishy and looks like this has been done so that their preferred brand gets the tender at the highest available price, hence giving out a signal that planned effort is made to cause loss to state exchequer.
He informed media that total of 12 bids were received from 8 brands (Samsung, Vivo, LG, Panasonic, Lava, Micromax, Xolo and Meizu), but only 3 bids of only one single company has qualified the process making it appear that some insider of the department is playing at the hands of company which has qualified the process. The other 9 bids have been eliminated by giving certain reasoning which further raises the eyebrow as to why other international brands are being ignored. The Directorate has planned to purchase mobile at a price of approx. Rs. 8,900 per piece which makes the total purchase cost as more the. 30 crores.
Rahul Tandon said he makes an appeal to the Governor to constitute an enquiry committee and order an immediate enquiry so that things come out clearly in the public domain and if anyone is trying to cause a loss to state exchequer then this loss should be controlled.
