Landslides at Ramban, NH1 closed
JAMMU, Dec 18: As vehicular

traffic on Jammu

Srinagar National Highway

remained suspended the

whole day due to landslides,

triggered in Seri area of

district Ramban, traffic

authorities issued an advisory

stating that no vehicular

movement, up or down

would be permitted on

National Highway till further


Traffic Police issued a

handout in the evening

station that Jammu-Srinagar

National Highway

remain blocked at Seri,

Ramban due to major landslide.

Road restoration work

shall start tomorrow morning

if weather conditions

so permit. No vehicular

movement, up as well as

down is permitted on the

highway till further orders.

Hundreds of vehicles

including passenger and

load carriers remained

stranded on the highway

at Ramban and the vehicles

coming from tehsil Banihal

also did not reach the district

headquarter Ramban

due to landslide.

Big shooting stones with

debris of earth triggered

from Chamba mountain

on highway near Seri area,

which halted the valley

bound vehicles to move

towards their destination.

Chaos and confusion was

witnessed among the passengers

stranded on highway.

Criticizing the BEACON

authorities, the

commuters of vehicles

alleged that BEACON has not even started the road clearance work, despite clear weather and all passengers are forced to spend night on the highway, in chilly weather conditions.

Official reports said that landslide triggered unexpectedly at Seri Ramban, which choked the traffic today. Shooting stones are rolling down from the mountain due to which restoration work remain affected till 5 PM, he said, adding that they have started clearance work and expecting to reopen the traffic till tomorrow morning.
