Civilian injured in Pak shelling in Poonch

POONCH, Dec 1: A civilian was injured as Pakistan shelled, for third straight day, forward Indian border posts and the villages on the Line of Control (LoC) in Shahpur and Qasba sectors of border district Poonch in Jammu region.
PRO Defence Lt Col Devender Anand, while confirming ceasefire violation by Pakistan, said, “On December 1, 2019, at about 1600 hours Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing of small arms and shelling with mortars along LoC in Shahpur and Qasba sectors in district Poonch.” Indian army was retaliating befittingly, he said adding that this was the third ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the border district in as many days. Heavy exchange of fire between two sides was on till the last reports poured in.
In the meanwhile police said that a civilian identified as Jamal Din, son of Mithu, resident of village Qasba of Shahpur in tehsil Haveli of Poonch sustained injuries in Pak shelling. Locals stated that several houses in the village were also damaged in the shelling.
Mohammed Sayed, a local, told KTNS, “Pakistani shelling for second consecutive day created a sense of insecurity among villagers. In shelling our neighbour was injured while many houses were also damaged in the area.”
A senior police official said, “This evening at around 03.55 PM, the troops of Pak army opened unprovoked fire on civilian areas and Indian forward posts along LoC in Qasba and Shahpur sector. Intermittent firing is still on. A civilian was injured in Pak shelling.”
DC Poonch Rahul Yadav, while talking to KTNS, said, “Pak army, second time in a day, violated ceasefire. This time Pakistani army is using heavy weapons. Heavy exchange of fire was still going on.”
Regarding injury to a civilian, Yadav said, “A person was injured in Pakistani shelling. We are monitoring the situation. In the meanwhile, we’ve instructed people to move towards safer places in their villages. We’ve extended immediate help to the injured from Red Cross Fund and he is stable now.”
