Full dress rehearsals ahead of R-Day celebrations

SRINAGAR, Jan 24: Full dress rehearsals were on Friday held in all the district headquarters of Kashmir valley in connection with celebration of 70th Republic Day.
In the summer capital, Srinagar, full dress rehearsal was held at the S K Stadium in which Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, unfurled the national flag, inspected the parade and took the salute at the march past. The main RD function of Kashmir will be held in S K Stadium.
Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Dr Shahid Iqbal and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar besides senior officers of civil administration, Police Department and other concerned were present on the occasion.
The march past was presented by contingents of J&K Police, J&K Armed Police, Border Security Force (BSF), CRPF, ITBP, SSB, Women Police, State Disaster Response Force, Fire and Emergency Services, NCC cadets and students.
On the occasion, various colourful cultural programmes, including traditional folk dances of Kashmiri and Dogri were presented by students from different educational institutions in collaboration of Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, and Youth Services & Sports.
This time security forces have put up checking points at different places to foil any attempt by militants to enter the city from outskirts. Security forces are using drones to keep a close watch of movement in the city, particularly around the stadium.
A close vigil is being maintained on all vehicles and pedestrians entering the city. Sources said security forces believe that there is hardly any militant in the city and efforts are now being made to smuggle in arms and ammunition into city to cause disturbance.
Similarly reports of full dress rehearsals were held in other districts of the valley, where Deputy Commissioners unfurled the tri-colour.
